Fall 2016: Lecture 2 Thermodynamics and Kinetics

This lecture covers fundamentals of chemical kinetics and thermodynamics, mainly as a review. Thermodynamic laws, electrochemical reactions, and acid-base reactions are covered. The thermodynamic discussion relates to Gibbs free energy and equilibrium constants. Kinetic discussion related to its use in data analysis Emphasis of the lectures is applied to information useful for speciation modeling. Calculations and models for speciation are discussed. Equilibrium modeling examples using EXCEL and the program CHESS are presented.  Respond to the PDF Quiz 2 when complete with the blog comment.

    1. The PDF quiz is assigned at the end of the lecture. Ideally you complete the lecture on the final date the lecture is assigned. However you really have until the next lecture to complete the current lecture. So for lecture 2 the final assigned data is 7 September. However the next assignment is Quiz 1 on 12 September, and the next lecture is on 14 September. I would accept PDF quiz 2 until 14 September, but would rather have you submit it on 7 September.

  3. So there is two sets of quizzes with each lecture? I think I was confused by the pdf quiz and the quiz tabs and now just realizing they are not the same quiz.

    1. Sorry, i will clarify this. Only one pdf quiz per lecture, no matter how many parts the lecture has. I change the pdf quizzes, there may be an old one on the link. I will make sure the links go to the same pdf quiz. Also you can check the pdf quiz dates.
